Welcome to another Waiting on Wednesday, a weekly meme hosted by Breaking the Spine…where we let everyone know what unreleased book(s) we are dying to read!
I have noticed that lately I’ve stuck myself into a Young Adult and New Adult groove, and while that’s great and all, every once in a while I like to read something that’s adult and serious and contemporary. So, this week I’m going to go with:
The Storyteller by Jodi Picoult
Publisher: Atria Books
Release Date: February 26, 2013
Genres: Fiction, Contemporary
The Blurb
Sage Singer, who befriends an old man who’s particularly beloved in her community. Josef Weber is everyone favorite retired teacher and Little League coach and they strike up a friendship at the bakery where Sage works. One day he asks Sage for a favor: to kill him. Shocked, Sage refuses…and then he confesses his darkest secret – he deserves to die, because he was a Nazi SS guard. Complicating the matter? Sage’s grandmother is a Holocaust survivor.
What do you do when evil lives next door? Can someone who’s committed a truly heinous act ever atone for it with subsequent good behavior? Should you offer forgiveness to someone if you aren’t the party who was wronged? And most of all – if Sage even considers his request – is it murder, or justice?
I know Jodi Picoult isn’t for everyone, but I’ve been a fan since I read My Sister’s Keeper in 2004. I’ve read almost all of her books (I read somewhere that this is her 21st book) and most of them get 4 and 5 star ratings from me. So, I’ll be waiting at the bookstore the day this one comes out…definitely! Thankfully my wait is almost over, since it comes out in *just* over a month! I’m looking forward to crying my heart out, because I always do when I read her work.
What about you? What book are you dying to get your hands on right now?

Ooohhh…. This sounds interesting. Great pick!
Fara @ Tumbling In Books
This sounds really good. Great pick.
Jenea @ Books Live Forever’s WoW
I actually have not read any Jodi Picoult books, but I keep seeing them EVERYWHERE!
I really hope this one is worth the wait for you.
Really, Ashley…we can’t be friends if you’ve never read Jodi Picoult!
I know you normally read YA – so if you’re interested in trying her out, read one that’s about teens – The Tenth Circle, The Pact, or 19 Minutes.
I have this one on my list, too; in fact, I’ve preordered it! So I really can’t wait!
Hope you enjoy it, too.
Here’s MY WOW POST
I have to say Jodi Picoult is hard for me to read, but the books I have read by her all affected me emotionally, so I guess she’s doing her job right!! This sounds pretty heart-wrenching, I’m not sure if I’ll read it or not, but the concept sure is original.
Here’s my WOW post.
She definitely gets my heart going as well, I can’t think of a book that I didn’t cry through (in 19 minutes, I cried in the first chapter…lol). Whenever I read one of her books, I have to do a bunch of light reads afterwards to heal my broken heart…
This one sounds like a very good read, definitely a book that’ll get you thinking. I hope this one lives up to your expectations and more!
Thanks for stopping by Bookmunchies (:
Thanks, Cyn! Her books are well known for making you think and change your mind about subjects several times…she makes it so HUMAN.
I haven’t read any Piccoult, though I did see the movie of My Sister’s Keeper. I usually like Atria books and the premise sounds intense. I’ll come back and see what you think of it, I’m curious now!
The movie is almost nothing like the book. I had to explain the movie to my boyfriend as we were watching, and they TOTALLY (as in 100%) changed the ending. I still own the movie, though. I read the book a few months before my own son was diagnosed with leukemia (a different type than in the book, though, thank goodness) so it’s got a special place in my heart!
My goodness that does sounds like a good book. Great pick and Happy Reading! Here is my WoW for this week!
Can you believe I’ve NEVER read a Jodi Picoult book yet?! And I own several!! I know she’s a very popular author, and I do hope to get to one of her books soon. This one sounds really good. Thanks for sharing!
ACK! You own several?!
Which ones…I can tell you which one to start with!
I’ve never read any of Jodi’s books, though I have seen My Sister’s Keeper. I may have to read some of her books this year.
Krystianna @ Downright Dystopian
I love her books too! I’m currently reading The Pact and it’s great
I’ll add this one on my wishlist.
